The biggest battle royale game to swarm the market in the past year has just reached a huge milestone. Fortnite Battle Royale has just announced that it has reached the 125 million player milestone in less than one year from release. With this big news, Epic has also announced that players will soon be able to fight for the world champion title next year.

Starting late 2018 and continuing into 2019, Epic will be hosting a slew of events and professional competitions all over the world. $100 million has been collected as the prize pool to be dished out across these competitions, with the end goal being the 2019 Fortnite World Cup.

Fortnite World Cup Qualifiers begin in Fall 2018 and will be based on merit. Epic stated that that no teams or franchises will be sold for this season. The finals will encompass only solo and duo matches but there will be plenty of chances for squads to take on other squads in some smaller events throughout the season.

Epic is planning on releasing a full schedule, tournament rules, code of conduct and platforms in the near future.
