Fortnite took a rough blow recently when the winners of a competitive duos match announced in a live interview that they aren't happy with the game and will be playing something else.

Epic Games recently held a minor National tournament for their battle royale game, Fortnite. The competition was for collegiate players, offering a six-grand cash prize to the winners. Sunday night, the winning pair of players were being interviewed. In the interview, the players (Jack and Mister Lemon) stated that they will be putting the game down, expressing discontent with the way that Epic has been updating the game.

"Honestly, we don't like the game that much anymore. Uh, so we'll see what happens. Epic is kinda messing around a little bit with the way they're balancing everything"

Jack

After as casual of a dismissal as he could, the host looked to the other player for an answer that doesn't speak poorly of the company running the event.

"Well, we've decided that we don't want to play competitive Fortnite anymore. So we're going to move on to different games or just probably different stuff."

Mister Lemon

Want to see the interaction for yourself? The moment was clipped via Twitch's video clipping system, caught by user BlueDreams. Watch that here.

Mister Lemon would later expand on their feelings in a Reddit thread. Where they explain that this was by no means a brash act, but something they've considered for a while.

"[It] wasn't meant to come off as ungrateful from us. We liked playing when we started the league back in Fall but we have been fed up / really burned out with the game in the past 3 months. Honestly if it wasn't for these tourneys I would have quit a long time ago. This was the only thing kinda keeping it fun and giving me the drive to play"

Complaining about balance changes is nothing new to the eSports scene, but this is a pretty high-profile moment to make such a statement. At least there won't be any repercussions for speaking poorly of an event they participated in. But will Epic listen? Probably not.
