Fortnite Mobile is Making Millions in In-App Purchases

126 million, to be precise.

Fortnite is still a big deal, this is nothing new. When the mobile game released, it became so popular that schools were having trouble maintaining their student's attention. Now that the iOS game has been publicly released, instead of being invite-only, we are seeing chart-topping earnings.

Developer Epic Games has earned over $15 million in its first three weeks. In the last 6 days (since its public launch), the app has earned $6.4 million. This beats out every other app on the market, such as Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans, and Pokémon Go. Estimates indicate that Epic made about $126 million through Fortnite in-app purchases in the month of February.

The most interesting difference is what players are buying. All of the other stable moneymaking apps on the market allow users to purchase items and upgrades to improve or aid their performance. Fortnite, however, only offers silly cosmetic items, such as costumes and dancing animations. Players can also pay $9.99 for a three-month subscription service that helps speed up the acquisition of rare event items (also cosmetic in nature).

Fortnite is continuing to dominate the monetary market, wherever they are. The free-to-play game has seen nothing but massive growth since its release, with no signs of slowing. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds may have popularized the battle royale genre, but they're struggling to keep up with Fortnite, even after launching their own mobile game variation.
