Fortnite Mayhem Brings Borderlands to the Battle Royale

How exciting.

You know, there have been a lot of Fortnite mashups that have been surprising. I never would have put Fortnite and John Wick together, for instance, but people seemed to like it. The Fortnite and Avengers mashup, meanwhile, was unexpected and, reportedly, quite excellent. And the Fortnite x Infinity Blade mashup was a sad, sad reminder of when Epic Games used to actually make video games.

But for some reason, this latest mashup, despite making objective sense, caught me the most off-guard of all of them.

Explore the new Pandora Rift Zone, become a little crazy with the Psycho Bundle in the Item Shop, or create some mayhem of your own with the new Pandora Prefab in Creative. Plus, new challenges with free rewards!

Oh god, is that Claptrap’s new voiceIt’s awful. It’s awful and I hate it.

Anyway, compared to the Avengers crossover, it’s relatively tame. There’s a new zone that’s stylistically ripped straight out of Borderlands (which never really had its own style to begin with) for people to explore, that even comes with its own unique mechanics: you’ll generate shield simply by dodging all hits for a while, much like Borderlands itself. It also comes with new weapon skins, new sticker… things, and of course a brand-new outfit, which is just the iconic Psycho enemies with that horribly voiced Claptrap on their backs.

Like I said, this makes sense. They’re both hyped titles, both are run by Epic Games, and both involve shooting people until you’re the only one standing. But I don’t know, the idea of promoting a M-rated game in a title that’s primarily enjoyed by kids just makes me feel… ugh. I know kids these days pretty much play whatever the hell they want anyway, but hey, I guess I’m old fashioned and think we should be keeping things age-appropriate.

Doesn’t matter though. I’m not Epic. Do what you want, nothing matters.
