Fortnite Introduces Limited Time 20-Person Team Mode

Fornite: Battle Royale has an update coming, and with it, another game mode. Instead of pitting people into two groups of 50, the new mode will create five teams of 20. The free update is expected surprisingly soon, March 8. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Much like 50v50, this mode will only be available for a limited time. Much like before, this will drastically change the way the game is played. 50 people to a team proved too much for stay organized. With this mode, we might actually see coordination between teams. If one group can manage to keep all of their members working together, it would be an unstoppable force.

Epic Games explained their reasoning for the new mode in a recent blog post.

Weve been using multiple data points (including your feedback) to iterate our existing [limited time modes]s and to build brand new LTMs. We are planning to quickly spin up a dozen or so LTMs, some of these may be more straightforward (e.g. along the lines of Sniper Shootout, Sneaky Silencer etc.). We also use LTMs to test new Shooting Models.

Other potential game modes they are considering include:

Blitz Mode (shorter matches!)
Drop into the first circle
Generally less time between circles
Team sizes in between 50-versus-50 and squads
50-versus-50 version 2

The developers are doing a great job of keeping the game fresh. Should the habit continue, I expect Fortnite's popularity to continue to rise the way it has been already.
