Fortnite's new game mode, Battle Royale, has gotten an update! The recently made free-to-play mode has been gaining tremendous traction as of late due to its competition against the hugely successful Player Unknown's Battlegrounds. As the attention to Battle Royale grows, so does its development.
Epic Games announced in a tweet that Battle Royale will be updating today to include 2 new features, Duos, and Supply Drops. While the tweet is framed as a way to thank their fans for 7 million downloads, this update was planned to happen at this time weeks prior.
Duos is much like squad mode, but instead of working in a four-man group, it's just you and one other player. This is great for when you don't have enough friends for a full squad but enough for some buddy battle action. Why it took an entire update to implement this is beyond me.
Supply Drops mode is fairly self-explanatory. Now when you play Battle Royale, various supply crates will fall down to the ground for nearby players to loot. These drops are to contain valuable weapons and supplies. You can shoot down their parachutes to make them fall faster, but you run the risk of alerting nearby players to your presence.
A free update to a free game is nothing but a good thing. If you haven't tried Battle Royale for yourself it's free to download and play on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, as well as PC (through the Epic Games Launcher).
