A long time ago I did a piece on a game called RIGS: Mechanized Combat League, which came out for Playstation VR. After I did the piece, I stopped paying attention to the game. I don't have PSVR, so as much as I wanted to buy the game, I really didn't have a reason to keep checking for updates. Well, I recently found out the Guerilla Cambridge, the studio that produced RIGS, was shut down.
A few former employees have recently come out to share their feelings about RIGS. Based on their responses, it seems like the biggest issue they must live with is that RIGS never had the chance to reach its full potential. It was a groundbreaking title for VR and definitely set a level of expectations for both developers and players, but the company was forced to stop putting 100% effort into it.
The company closing was a shock and nobody really saw it coming, but it doesn't seem like anybody is bitter about it. The former employees understand that situations like this are very common, but they do wish they had the opportunity to keep building RIGS up. They said DLCs will still be coming out for the game and more levels will be added, so it's definitely not going to be a dead title. It is always sad when a company shuts down, especially when they really did have so much potential with one of their games.
