And there’s a better than good chance it’s better than what you were dreaming.
As you know, Dead Space 3 ends with humanity basically doomed. Dead Space 4 planned to follow up on that, similar to the flotilla section from Dead Space 3.
"The notion was you were trying to survive day to day against infested ships, searching for a glimmer of life, scavenging supplies to keep your own little ship going, trying to find survivors… I figured you'd start in a section of space, maybe following a trail of ship carcasses to an orbital station you think might have the parts and fuel needed to get your ship Shock (Warp)-capable. You'd start to form a picture of what happened in that region while fighting through scores of Necromorphs from ship to ship. And you'd learn a new, critical bit of plot info along with the means to Shock to a couple of nearby sectors.”
Crafting would have played a much larger role in this game, although it would have been improved from what they had in Dead Space 3, where it was a much-maligned mechanic. They also wanted to make each ship you visited feel unique and real, so you’d have lots of environmental stuff to enjoy while you cleaved through alien freaks.
Seems like a pity we’ll never get a chance to play it, but maybe with a lot of modding Beyond Good and Evil 2 could be a convincing facsimile.
