With E3 just around the corner – seriously, it’s in June – studios from around the globe are gearing up to show off their latest and greatest games to the world. One exception to this, however, might be Ubisoft, who has gone so deep into the “games as a service” that for however many new games they announce, they’re also likely to spend just as much time talking about ways they’ll improve old ones. You know, the way “games as a service” are supposed to work, not the crappy EA way where they release new sequels every other year anyway.

Looking at you, Battlefield 1!

Well, during the latest For Honor livestream, the team talked about upcoming changes they plan to bring to the game in the coming months, as usual. The usual new content, including new heroes and maps, were discussed in brief, but the biggest news was no news at all: they revealed that they had some big new changes coming, so big that they decided to wait until E3 to unveil them.

Now, this could be any number of things, of course. For example, it could, in theory, mean a sequel, although knowing Ubisoft, that strikes me as terribly unlikely (and, again, kudos to Ubisoft for making ‘games as a service’ seem like a good thing in contexts like these), plus they were talking about improving the old game so in the context of the livestream a brand-new game seems unlikely. What would be more likely is a giant new game mode is coming to the game – not unlike Operation: Chimera for Rainbow Six Siege or… you guessed it, a goddamn Battle Royale mode.

But that’s all just speculation on my end. Ubisoft’s presentation is on June 11, and we’ll see for ourselves then.
