Probably the most exciting thing to come out of the Ubisoft press conference, for me, was their MOBA/Dynasty Warriors/Ryse hybrid For Honor. While we first saw it last year, at yesterday's E3 presentation, we got a nice, long ten minute preview showing off one of the single-player story missions, where you play a viking raiding a samurai castle for their supplies.
Last time we saw For Honor, the focus was on the multiplayer aspects, and we saw our first taste of their unique battle system, the Art of Battle, which let you strike and defend from three angles, in addition to your standard environmental kills and quick-dodges. This trailer doubles down on the combat, showing how you can cleave through lesser enemies, outwit the larger ones, and fight your way to triumph.
But perhaps the nicest part of all this, of course, is that it doesn't look like an open-world game at all! That means Ubisoft might, just MIGHT, not fill it to the brim with glitches! We'll just have to deal with copious amounts of DLC and half-a-dozen different special editions!
And that's nice. Sort of. The game is set to launch early next year for consoles and PC, so, get those battle axes and katanas ready: and then put them away, because we've still got at least eight months!
