Ubisoft had a server outage last week, and For Honor players were pretty upset. The number of players unable to access the game's online mode between February 13 and 26 remains undisclosed.
To make up for the issue, Ubisoft is now offering Champion Status to all players, on all platforms, from March 3 to March 5. Anyone wishing to claim their peace offering can log in on those dates. Nice and simple.
What Is Champion Status Anyway?
Ubisoft announced this peace offering on Reddit just yesterday, February 27. They described Champion Status as follows:
- More Salvage from dismantling Gear
- More end-match Loot
- +25% XP Boost
- 3 Exclusive Champion Emblems
- An Exclusive Champion Icon next to your name
- +10% XP Boost for all players on your team
- Champion Statuses stack (i.e.: if you bought the Season Pass, you will get 3 extra days)
If the Champion Status peace offering isn't enough, For Honor's 1.03 update has officially dropped this week, and the changes are going to pretty significant. One such change is that Ubisoft has reverted the Guardbreak move to how it was in the beta, which means the players can counter Guardbreaks by using the same move.
Another change includes the alterations to some of the game's fighters. Peacekeeper has increased range, while Valkyrie got some stronger, quicker attacks. Any bots joining an in-progress match (Elimination, Duel, and Brawl) will now remain dead until the end of the round as well.
PC players will be the first to enjoy all these changes, since it dropped today at 5 AM PST/ 8 AM EST/ 1 PM GMT. The PS4 and Xbox One versions are undergoing certification with both Sony and Microsoft.
Should You Play For Honor?
For Honor has received some high ratings, with an 8/10 from IGN and a decent 78% from Metacritic. Trusted Reviews has given it a 4/5, describing the pros as "in-depth combat system, loads to learn, visually strong, online play is thrilling."
But it doesn't come without its share of issues either. Other than the server issue, which Ubisoft has now fixed, the cons are described as an instructive campaign that's meant to teach more than entertain, and overall a difficult gameplay experience to get into and enjoy from the start. The "initial online matches are punishing."
The game seems like the type to try, but it might not be for everyone. If challenging beginnings are up your alley, this might just be the ideal game for you. However, the game is very much battle after battle, which means it can become rather mundane over time. If anything, it might be the type of game people play for a few weeks and then move on from.
Then again, it does seem like it's well-balanced, with a focus on obstacles and rewards for player efforts. If strengthening characters seems like fun, this might be the game you've been waiting for. Will you play For Honor?
