For Honor was a game full of promise that was only let down by the fact it was a Ubisoft game and thus had to be run by Ubisoft. And one of the Ubisoft things Ubisoft did was instead of giving the multiplayer game dedicated servers, they decided to use P2P connections, which means everyone can go just about as fast as the slowest idiot who connected. And people asked Ubisoft for years to fix the issue, because if the game actually ran well, then people might have actually enjoyed the strategic, methodical combat.
Well, here we are, almost a year later, and finally Ubisoft is getting their crap together and will be releasing dedicated servers. But before they do that, they have to test them out, and that’s where you come in. Oh hey look it’s a video:
Over the weekend (so starting tomorrow, December 15) you can download the Free Open Test from your preferred platform, download, and play; even if you don’t own the game proper, you can play it for free over the weekend. Now, stats, gear, steel and XP you earn through the trial don’t go over to the main game, so you might think dedicated fans have less reason to play, but think again: the test servers will also let people play all the DLC champions, meaning if you haven’t gotten to try the Gladiator or Ninja, or whoever else they added to this damn game while I wasn’t paying attention, this is your chance.
That said, if you do participate, you’ll also get an exclusive emblem symbol, which you can use to decorate your banner in the full game. So that’s nice.
I still think it’s kind of a tall order to ask fans to download the game again in order to participate in this test, but hey, at least their wishes are being answered. Once the dedicated servers go live, I might even try the game again. Maybe. Just maybe.
