So For Honor is still rolling in, and we’ve got that big open beta to look forward to in six days, and Ubisoft is taking this brief respite between betas to give us more information about the game, specifically regarding the game’s Season Pass. Now, if you’re like me, you’re probably thinking “But wait, didn’t Ubisoft say that any gameplay-related content would be released for free?” And you’re right, they did. BUT, they still want that sweet season pass money, so they cobbled something together that’ll incentivize players to dish out some early dough without backtracking on their promise.

So it’s greedy, but it’s very ethical greediness.

Anyway, it mostly amounts to cosmetics, and early access to some of the content that will be coming to players for free. Here’s the full list:

• Six all-new Heroes available seven days before released to all players
• Six elite outfits to customize the new Heroes
• Day One War Pack, which includes:
  • One exclusive sunbeam effect on emotes for all Heroes
  • Three exclusive emblem outlines
  • Three scavenger crates to unlock additional gear
  • 30-day Champion Status that gives XP boosts to friends, more XP from crafting and additional end-match loot
Everything that’s currently listed in the Season Pass, save the heroes, are actually already in the base game, so it’s not so much a “season pass” as it is a special edition, or something.

"The new Heroes will be progressively released by batches of two at the beginning of a new Season of the Faction War - the persistent cross-platform meta-game that will evolve the war across the For Honor world. After this early-access period, these Heroes can be unlocked via Steel, the For Honor in-game currency given for completing matches and in-game challenges."

The heroes, while public, will only be available to other players via Steel, an in-game currency you can either earn through matches or buy with real cash. Maps, as far as I know, will always be free.

So again, not a perfect system, but far from the worst the industry has devised.
