Hard to believe that For Honor is still kicking around, huh? Last we heard, the latest season, called Age of Wolves, would introduce long-overdue dedicated servers to the game, which would hopefully fix the lag issue that people have been complaining about since forever.
But the fifth season of the game will bring more than just a dedicated server: Ubisoft announced the other day that it would bring major gameplay changes to the Kensei, Conqueror, Nobushi, Berzerker, and Highlander. These changes will be so dramatic, in fact, that we won't be getting new champions, largely because the Kensei and Conqueror will be getting entirely new movesets and animations to make them more competitive with the oftentimes overpowering DLC characters. The other three will just receive significant updates.
To complement these new movesets, the game's tutorial will be adjusted, improving the training mode to give people new ways to practice and refine before leaping into the fray. New trials (of two levels: Apprentice and Warrior) will help players get more familiar with champions, and a new Arena mode will let you practice against specific types of heroes and movesets.
On top of all that mess, Season Five will also shift the focus of 4v4 ranked play from Dominion to Tribute, boost the level cap, introduce new items that will swap salvage for exp, and of course, include a host of new customization options for your favorite (and not-so-favorite) characters.
Looks like a comprehensive list of changes. It's unfortunate the dedicated servers won't be coming sooner because that is something that might make me revisit the game, but hopefully, these changes give people who are still enjoying the hack-and-slash fun something fresh and new. The lack of new heroes (and maps, so far) is a bit sad, but hey: these heroes, if I remember correctly, desperately need the boost.
You can look forward to all these changes on February 15, where it'll launch free for all players. If you don't count "hard drive space" as a kind of payment.
