Flaming Fowl Finds Funding for Fable Fortunes

that was my favorite headline to write, ever.

It's not uncommon for developers to find 'backers' for their game during a Kickstarter campaign that are a bit different from the standard target audience: it's very common these days for developers to actually have a developer or a publisher's support, but still launch a Kickstarter anyway in order to gauge interest and raise some starting capital. The question is more if the developer is going to be earnest with its audience, or if it'll be greedy and try to both have its cake and eat it too.

Thankfully, we can put the fine folks at Flaming Fowl studios, the Ex-Lionhead developers working on Fable Fortunes, in the same camp as Playtonic and Lab Zero. Not only have they been able to announce that their game now enjoys the extra support of cooperate backers, they doubled down by saying they would cancel the Kickstarter so they could focus on the game itself--ignoring the allure of extra money.

"Thanks to your enthusiasm and support, we are happy to announce that we’ve successfully secured additional development funding! This, alongside our ongoing personal investment, will mean that we can continue to improve the game and allow even more of you to start playing.

With the immediate future of Fable Fortune now secure, we have taken the decision to end our Kickstarter campaign early to focus on releasing a Closed Beta build as quickly as possible. As we've always stated, we want to make this game with your help, your feedback and your input. We have huge plans for Fortune and we know that whatever happens in the future, it all started with our already incredible community."

That, of course, is very cool of them, to be so... disciplined. Granted, their odds of finding the funds they needed weren't great, they had only raised 58,000 pounds of the 250,000 they needed, so it could be more of a sly PR move than genuine goodwill, but, let's assume the best of people and say it came from a place of goodness.

No word on if people who have backed will get all the extra swag they may have been hoping for. I wouldn't think so, but... still, we can cross our fingers, right?
