Five Nights at Freddy's May Become a Movie

Are you ready for Freddy on the big screen?

I may never play Five Nights at Freddy's personally (given that I'm a gigantic coward and even Resident Evil 4 scared the crap out of me) but I still like it a whole lot; largely because I find the concept interesting and its approach to storytelling fascinating, and because I find the story behind its creation inspiring. Because of Scott Cawthon's rags-to-riches never-give-up story, I want nothing but success for the man but at the same time, Five Nights at Freddys can't-and shouldn't-go on forever. The third game wrapped up the story nicely, and making a fourth would just not work well for the story I love so much.

That said, he should still milk this cash cow for all it's worth. Seriously, Scott may never get a success like this again, so he should make sure to capitalize on this while he still can.

With that said: Five Nights at Freddy's is becoming a movie!

Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions, will be the heads behind it, but apparently Scott himself will be involved with the early stages of development, probably to spell out exactly what the hell is supposed to be happening in the plot.

Currently, there are no writers assigned to the project, but I think we can all guess what the plot will entail: a security guard at a haunted pizza place, parallel to Chuck E. Cheese, has to survive five nights watching over the halls of his workplace while being attacked by killer animatronics possessed by the souls of five murdered children. Seems like it has solid movie potential, especially since, honestly, the Five Nights at Freddy's gameplay is simple enough that a movie translation wouldn't be hard at all, except maybe explaining why someone would ever come back after the first night.

According to Grahame-Smith...

"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie."

And according to Mr. Scott Cawthon...

"The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to."

This is pretty exciting, even if I'll never watch it-ever-but at the same time we should temper our enthusiasm. You know how Video Game Movies go-they're more likely to get caught in production purgatory than they are to ever be released, but still, here's hoping!
