Well. I can’t say I’m surprised, but I’m certainly caught off guard.

Everything about Five Nights at Freddy’s reeks of horror: the title screen, the background story… even the release dates are just like jump scares, because they come out of nowhere and were only vaguely predictable. In this case, Five Night’s at Freddy’s 4: The Final Chapter (no, really) was supposed to come out on Halloween. A few weeks later, around the time of the first trailer, Scott changed his mind and decided to release it on August 8th instead, around the time of the launch of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s. But today, decided “heck, the game’s finished anyway—screw release dates” and just unceremoniously published the full game on steam. It's available now for $7.99.

"In this last chapter of the Five Nights at Freddy's original story, you must once again defend yourself against Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and even worse things that lurk in the shadows. Playing as a child whose role is yet unknown, you must safeguard yourself until 6 AM by watching the doors, as well as warding off unwanted creatures that may venture into your closet or onto the bed behind you. You have only a flashlight to protect yourself. It will scare away things that may be creeping at the far end of the hallways, but be careful, and listen. If something has crept too close, then shining lights in its eyes will be your end."

I have to admit, I rather like Scott’s approach to release dates. He sets a time it might be done, but if he’s done earlier… well, why delay? Give the fans what they want as soon as they want it, rather than plod it out arbitrarily so you have more time to get pre-orders and release new trailers.

Now, as for if this game is any good? I’ll let YouTube decide for me.
