First Wreck-It Ralph 2 Trailer Revealed

This is not what I wanted at all.

I was… well, I am a big fan of Walt Disney Animation’s 2012 tribute to all things gaming, Wreck-It Ralph. While the “gaming” aspects of it were what first drew me into theaters, it was the charming cast of characters and a fun, if simple plot that kept me smiling all through the whole thing. It’s not really a movie about video games, despite what the marketing told you – it was more about candy puns, and being okay with who you are and what you’re good at (even if the moral could also be read as ‘never try to improve’).

Well, we’d known for a while that Wreck-It Ralph would be due for a sequel, and we knew for a while that it would be about the gang exploring the great wide world of the internet. I, for one, was very excited at the possibility, both because it would mean more games to explore and more time spent with some characters I’ve grown very attached to. So you can imagine my excitement when Disney released the first trailer for the sequel just the other day: Wreck-it Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet.

I’ll… I’ll let you see it first...

If your first thought after seeing that was “this looks an awful lot like the Emoji movie”, then you won’t be alone, pal. While I hesitate to say my excitement has died, I would say it’s in critical condition and it needs some health, stat, if it’s going to pull through.

I have more faith in Disney than I do in Sony, but then, I can’t really remember the last modern Disney movie that had a good sequel, so, it’s very likely my faith will go unrewarded. But hey, this is just the first trailer, and we have all the way to November until it comes out proper. So that’s plenty of time to be more disappointed.
