Nintendo recently released a new trailer for their free-to-play mobile game, Fire Emblem Heroes. But instead of the usual mix of anime action and orchestral strikes, we get... something else.
The trailer was to mark the beginning of Book 3 of the mobile game's campaign. Before we really dive in, you should watch the trailer for yourself. It's embedded below, running about 1 minute and 40 seconds.
We'll assume that you've already taken a moment or two to soak in what just happened.
It starts off with a strange, backward music'd scene of a woman in a forest. In only a short moment later, she's embraced by the premier spooky antagonist. Then the screaming metal music began. Like a hardcore flight of the Valkyries, this ushered in an onslaught of downright creepy scenes and images. There's black goop, full frontal murder, and you KNOW that a woman would cry before its all said and done.
We were fortunate enough to have a Nintendo press release explaining what all of that was. The campaign takes inspiration from Norse mythology, with the creepy antagonist being Hel, the ruler of the dead. Hel's daughter Eir, must infiltrate the player's team as a five-star hero.
The first two chapters of Book 3 are available now, with the later chapters releasing in the near future.
