A huge update for Rocket League was just released on the 7th of December and now that it's been out for a short while I want to cover everything that's happened in this patch. To start things off, let's talk about some of the "Christmas-y" changes. For one, a new map variant on Utopia Coliseum will give the grass snow until early 2017. Due to the snow covered field, the map has also been permanently added to the Snow Day playlist, allowing fans to play it all year long. On top of this, Psyonix has released a new set of Christmas items for the holiday season, including the 2017 Glasses topper, the Elf Hat topper, the Nutcracker antenna, and all 2015 Christmas loot.
Psyonix has also added some brand new things in this update, one of them being there brand new Starbase ARC map to follow up their Aquadome map. This new map is octagonal, and sadly, will be a part of the ranked playlist. I hate that they add their new maps onto the ranked scene, seeing as how they aren't truly "standard" maps and places like Neo Tokyo and Wasteland often cause players to get upset when stumbled upon in ranked. They have also added a night variant to Wasteland, a visual upgrade for the Gizmo and X-Devil, new CC4 crates, and the chance to get a brand new import body called the Octane ZSR.
The brand new Starbase ARC map!
The amount of things Psyonix added during this update is extremely impressive, but they also tweaked some existing game components as well. For example, custom training is now fully live. This allows you to create your own personal training situations for specific situations that you need to work on, plus it allows you to upload and download different training scenarios created by the community. They've even added Steam Workshop access so players can download maps made by the community as well.
The Octane ZSR, available only through CC4s!
A preference system for maps has been included, allowing players to "Like" 4 maps to raise the likelihood of playing on that map and "Dislike" 2 maps to lessen the chance of you getting that map. Some minor changes have been added as well, such as the ability to adjust your turning sensitivity on controller, a Master Volume control, Post-Game Highlights, and colorblind support. Overall, I'm really loving this update. I haven't gotten a CC4 to peak into just yet, but I'm hoping to pick one up in a couple of days and get the wheel rolling. For right now, CC4 crates are rare and are worth quite a bit compared to other crates. Happy hunting and I hope you enjoy the update as much as I do!
