Final Fantasy XV Cracked Four Days Before Release

Is that considered a new record?

For as long as there have been PC/Mac games, there have been pirates sharing those games with others. So far, publishers and developers haven't been able to stop this from happening. Modern hackers have grown familiar with popular anti-tamper technology, enabling them to crack games in a matter of days. Final Fantasy XV broke records today when the PC version of the game was successfully cracked four days before its official release.

Chinese hacking group 3DM has cracked the game in its entirety through clever use of the demo and the Origin pre-load option. Unlike Steam, Origin offered an unencrypted version of the whole game. The demo version of the game, while limited, does not contain the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. Using the demo .exe file in conjunction with the unencrypted game allowed 3DM to access the full game, free of DRM.

According to the group, the first three chapters are playable without a problem. Certain individuals reportedly got as far as chapter nine. The cracked project sits at 150GB when you include the HD 4K Resolution Textures. So if this isn't genuine, it's a fantastic quality fake.

This might finally solve the ongoing argument on whether or not Denuvo hinders game performance. While publishers claim it doesn't, users frequently report that Denuvo-running games perform better when cracked. Now we could potentially benchmark the unencrypted version to the official release.

Final Fantasy XV properly releases on the PC March 6.
