That may not be the case, however. But Tabata also has noted that it needs to surpass Final Fantasy VII, the greatest selling Final Fantasy title in the series. Tabata would like to see at least 10 million in sales. Hopefully, it will be possible.
I'd like to think more positive about the series, however. Console gaming in Japan has dwindled more than anywhere else. If Final Fantasy XV has managed to sell a ton globally, even if not in Japan, maybe it would mean a new direction for Square Enix in the future, and they could retain the numbered games.
I suppose we will see September 30, as Final Fantasy XV will release then for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Well, at least Final Fantasy XIV is still making Square Enix quite a bit of dough.
