Let's talk Final Fantasy XIV. It's been awhile since I've last posted anything about it, but honestly, there hasn't been anything big to report. Overall, the Stormblood expansion, at least for a close-to-eight year veteran for the game, has been rather stale.

The dungeons have been dwindling in number, the demanded quality-of-life updates refuse to appear... same ol', same ol'... until now.

Perhaps. It seems that Patch 4.2 will bring a slew of updates to Final Fantasy XIV, both quality of life and content-based. So what should we expect to see?

Well, before we introduce you to the updates, you should probably watch the launch trailer below:

Right, so if you didn't somehow catch the biggest feature of Patch 4.2, it's the second raid tier of Omega, known as Sigmascape - and it will be Final Fantasy VI-based. Can you say hype?

Hype!

I can't wait for the Savage version, that's for sure. Anyway, here's what you can expect for the patch's content:

New Main Scenario - The story continues after the return of Raubahn, and Ala Mhigo continues its march towards recovery. However, there's also Doma on the other side, and the status over there has been rather... worrying.

New Raid Dungeon - Introducing Omega: Sigmascape, which is populated with features and bosses from Final Fantasy VI... including Kefka.

New High-level Trial - Byakko makes an appearance, which begins a new series of side quests.

New Dungeons - 4.2 brings two dungeons: Hells' Lid and The Fractal Continuum (Hard).

New Beast Tribe Quests - You'll have the chance to befriend and aid the Vira, one of the tribes of the snake-like Ananta.

Glamour Dressers - A long sought-after feature, Glamour Dressers will allow you to convert equipment, weapons, and tools into glamours at inns and combine them into a complete ensemble for convenient customization of player outfits.

Feast PvP Updates - Alongside the new rules, the PvP Team System will allow groups of up to six players to compete in ranked matches while communicating using a special group chat function.

A New Duty Recorder Feature - You'll be able to analyze raid encounters and improve upon your techniques or just watch the best battles you've ever participated in with the new video playback feature.

Housing Updates - More wards and subdivisions will be added to each of the four residential areas. Furthermore, from this point forward, one account will have access to one free company home and one personal house.

And More - Expect bard performance updates, additional inventory through the use of a new companion storage feature, and new equipment (not crafting, sadly).

You can examine all of the details on the official Final Fantasy XIV forums. For new players, this is the perfect time to jump in (and it is easy to catch up in, anyway).

As for the release date, expect Patch 4.2, titled Rise of a New Sun, to launch on January 30, 2018.
