Guess what's coming to the West? Hint: it's not a video game, but an item based on a video game!
The Final Fantasy Trading Card Game! This game, which has had a six-year run in Japan, 15 expansions, and over 2,000 different cards, will be heading to North America on October 28.
This card game is result of a marriage between Hobby Japan and Square Enix, designed by former TGC champion Taro Kageyama. The game has received all sorts of praise in Japan, boasting clever strategy, luck, and fast-paced gameplay.
The first set, which is titled, "Opus 1" will be home to 216 cards with art from Tetsuya Nomura, Yoshitaka Amano, and Akihiko Yoshida. These cards will not only cover the Final Fantasy entries of the past 30 years, but also the titles that have yet to be released, including Final Fantasy VII Remake, Dissidia, and World of Final Fantasy. Furthermore, each card in Opus 1 will also have a premium "foil" version, if you're absolutely obsessive about collecting.
Being a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise for years, I'm apt to collect anything that relates to the series. Yes, I have chicobo and moogle plushies galore. So this is the perfect collection opportunity for me.
Again, Opus 1, the first set from the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, will make its debut at major hobby stores on October 28, 2016.
