Final Fantasy Portal Launches with Triple Triad and a Free Copy of Final Fantasy

Most of us probably hopped on for Triple Triad though.

If you’re a Final Fantasy fan(atic) like me, then you probably squealed at today’s arrival of the Final Fantasy Portal App, available for both Android and iOS. For those that haven’t downloaded the app yet, we can provide a breakdown of what is through those kuporiffic gates:

Okay, so the layout is a little busy on the eyes. But moving past that…

There are a couple free goodies to check out on this app:

First of all, those who have have access to the Portal app will receive a free copy of the original Final Fantasy to play. However, this version can only be accessed through the Final Fantasy Portal. Furthermore, users can download this app free of charge until August 31. Unfortunately for Android users, if the free game is deleted after August 31, then users need to purchase the game.

On a side note, if you try to start games/apps from the Apps tab on the bottom of the Portal App, you will find that they will not start. However, you can access the app on the Google Play Store directly from the Games tab on the top left-hand corner.

Now one other game you can access directly from the Portal is…

*drumroll*

Triple Triad! This free to play title is based off the popular card game from Final Fantasy VIII, but contains cards that pay homage to all Final Fantasy. Keep in mind that being a free-to-play, players can only play so many matches before they need to wait for a recharge. At launch, there are 300 cards, and--similar to Final Fantasy XIV's Triple Triad--a lost match will not result in lost cards.

Speaking of FFXIV, does that mean that plans for Final Fantasy XIV’s integrated Triple Triad app is no more? Personally speaking, I hope not. I’d love to be able to play anywhere and be able to collect cards for in-game purposes.

Either way, what comes with the release of TT is a little in-game celebration that will run from August 20, 2015 to August 31, 2015 at 4:59 PM PDT/7:59 EST. For GMT residents, the campaign will end at 11:59 PM August 31, 2015. Within this campaign, those that play can earn one crystal once per day. Additionally, the chances of 5 star cards appearing--playing solo on hard difficulty--will greatly increase.

Finally, if you take a look at the Exchange shop, there’s a variety of goodies that can be purchased with points:
  • Final Fantasy VII Cloud Strife Wallpaper - 10 points
  • Final Fantasy VIII Squall Leonhart Wallpaper - 10 points
  • Final Fantasy X Wellspring Embrace Wallpaper - 10 points
  • Final Fantasy IV Rydia Wallpaper - 10 points
  • Final Fantasy III Image Visual Wallpaper - 10 points
  • Final Fantasy Image Illustration Wallpaper - 10 points
  • Triple Triad 4 Star Eiko Card - 300 points
  • Triple Triad 3 Star Hope Card - 80 points
  • Triple Triad 4 Star Tenzen Card - 300 points
  • Triple Triad 3 Star Black Mage Card - 80 points
These items appear to rotate with each month. According to the app, Item Rewards are for the dates of August 1, 2015 to August 31, 2015 (GMT). Additionally, there seems to be an Item Code category, which has nothing in it... for now. So perhaps there will be goodies to use in games such as Final Fantasy XIV?

Perhaps... minions!?

Though new, hopefully we will see this app grow into a flourishing hub for Final Fantasy fans. Until then, it’s Triple Triad time!
