Well, with thanksgiving finally over and the sales of Black Friday little more than an echo in your now empty wallet, looks like the gaming world is finally coming back to normal. Still, it’ll take a while for any real news to pop out of the woodwork, so in the meantime let’s look at this interesting but largely insignificant new reveal from Sony (the company complete, not just the gaming part).
So, FIFA is evil. That’ll come to a surprise to some of you, but the international organization that manages the world cup is pretty much one of the most diabolical corporations in the whole world, in that they willfully and gleefully destroy entire economies to make their fortune, making them one of the few certifiable money vampires that’s both loved and cherished around the globe.
John Oliver explains it better than I do, and he’s funnier, so here you go.
Anyway, Sony has been quietly aware of FIFA’s wicked ways for a while now, and has tolerated it because, hey, they like money too. But the growing awareness of FIFA’s villainy has put it, and it’s sponsors, in some unwelcome spotlight, so Sony has officially cut its losses and dropped FIFA as a sponsor.
Now, they’re not SAYING it’s because of corruption--even a mega corperation like Sony doesn’t want to become a target of enraged south American soccer fanatics—and officially list the dropped sponsorship as a symptom of "preferring to spend its money on completing structural reforms this fiscal year". However, word on the street is that Sony is just straight-up trying to disassociate itself with FIFA’s bad press.
With Sony dropping, FIFA currently has six major sponsors, although one of them, Emirates, will be dropping too—they, at least, were more blunt about why they left, directly citing the fact that FIFA is the devil.
There's no word on if this will effect the FIFA games for the Playstation. Probably not, but still.
