The well known yet controversial puzzle platformer, Fez, has made its way to iOS devices.
Fez originally launched as an Xbox 360 digital game in April 2012. Over time, the game would be ported to PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. The group that helped with these ports, BlitWorks, has now assisted in bringing the game to iPhones.
There was a mild controversy with the creator, Phil Fish, not long after the game's release. He had gotten into an argument with journalist Marcus Beer. Hateful and otherwise not acceptable things were said between the two, prompting Fish to cancel development on Fez 2 and retire from the games industry.
The iOS port, known as Fez Pocket Edition, was completed without Fish's involvement. The idea of a mobile port was tossed around since 2014 and was even teased earlier this year.
Fez Pocket Edition requires iOS 8.0 and is not supported on devices older than an iPhone 5s or iPad Air. iPads will display the game in letterbox, since the aspect ratio is natively 16:9 and not 4:3.
Controls will be via "virtual buttons" that display on the screen. The idea of gesture controls was experimented with but never worked out. You can do screen rotations with finger swiping at least.
Fez Pocket Edition can be found in the iOS App Store for $4.99.
