That’s bad news for anyone who’s primed to get a game published by EA, specifically developer Zoink, whose game Fe was the first indie title to be published by EA’s new indie support arm, EA Originals. He’s concerned, correctly, that fans will assume the worst when they see EA was involved, and has recently gone on the record to say that EA has, in fact, not compromised his artistic work, and in fact they’ve been nothing but a pleasure.
Game director Andreas Beijer has this to say to Wccftech:
"It has been amazing to have them onboard actually. I understand it might sound like I’m paid to say this but that’s the honest truth. They have provided so much help without meddling with the artistic vision of the game and it has been fantastic for us to be able to use their experience and knowledge of making and publishing games.”
In Fe, you play a cute fox… thing that can co-operate with other animals in order to platform across the forest. You do that by singing, hitting the right note at the right distance. You can also learn new languages which will let you sing to new animals, opening up new paths and ways to explore. It seems promising, and if EA really hasn’t compromised anything with their filthy hands, well, I’m on board.
And if it turns out good? At least then EA will have a new home for all the "traditional" games we thought we’d never see from them again. That’s promising.
Fe is scheduled to release sometime next month.
