Fatal Frame Returns with a Lady of Black Water Remake - E3 2021

The second time they've tried to bring this title to a Nintendo console.

Fatal Frame first came out on the PS1, and while there haven’t been a whole lot of games in the series as of late, they have gotten a lot of remakes and remasters, since they’re kind of iconic and the fear of trying to fend off monstrous ghosts by taking glamor shots of them just… really works. A while back, Nintendo got a remake of Crimson Butterfly, which came out on the Wii. And then, we got a remake of the first game in the series, Lady of Black Water, which came out for the Wii U. But since the Wii U doesn’t count, they’ve decided to try re-releasing that game again, but this time on the Switch.

And we saw it in action for the first time at E3 this year.

Since it’s just a remake, you can’t expect any gimmicks or tricks this time around: you just wander around terrifying locations, using a camera to defend yourself from even scarier ghosts. And possibly do it while dressed in stupidly sexy costumes, because while this might be peak Japanese horror, it’s still Japanese.

Anyway, it’s coming later this year. Make sure you play it with the lights off.
