Are you ready to get spooky? A new update is coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to celebrate the festivities of Halloween. Give out candy, grow pumpkins, and get dressed up as soon as September 30.
Referred to as the Fall Update, this will include a number of new features centered around the October season and its popular holiday, Halloween. The features were showcased in a new announcement video.
Let's break down everything we saw, in order.
Starting in October, players will be able to buy candy from the Nook shop cabinet. There might be other ways to collect candy, but this is all we see in the video. There also appeared to be something else for sale, a sprout of some kind. We assume it's the starting sprout of...
Growing pumpkins! Players will be able to plant, water, and tend to their own pumpkin patches. Once ready, they can be harvested and used to craft a special bunch of seasonal decorations.
To further get into the Halloween spirit, new skin and eye options will become available, featuring costume-ish colors like green skin and yellow eyes. This way, players can make the most of their costumes. There will also be new emotes, like haunted, that let the player fully act the part.
It all culminates to one day, Halloween. On October 31, from 5 PM to midnight, Jack, the Czar of Halloween will appear and gather everyone together to show off their costumes. Talk with villagers, see their outfits, and show off your emotes. This will also be your chance to give candy out to all of your favorite villagers.
Non-Halloween Changes
That's the meat (or the candy core) of the update, but it's not everything. There will also be an update to the Nook Link section of the Nintendo Switch app that allows you to activate and perform emotes in-game from the convenience of your phone.
Lastly, they announce plans for the next update, taking place some time in Late November. This is accompanied by Franklin, the Turkey chef that hosts the Harvest Festival, and Jungle, the reindeer host of Christmas (Toy Day). So we can safely assume the next update will involve those events in some way.
The Fall Update releases on September 30 on Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch.
