The next Far Cry game has officially been announced, and I have to admit--despite myself, considering this is a Ubisoft title, and they’ve been rather brutal with the whole ‘Uplay Integration’ thing with the Far Cry franchise, I’m actually kind of excited for this one. Check out the trailer:
Taking the step away from the “white guy surviving a guerrilla war in a third world country” that the previous Far Cry’s pioneered, this next game is set way back in the stone age, where men hunted, women hunted, animals hunted, and guns were nothing but a shaman’s daydream. Seeing the franchise explore a melee-focused combat system with a more diverse selection of deadly animals hunting you (animals that might actually be interested in killing you, for a change) will certainly be a shift, I hope Ubisoft is up to the task.
Anyway, there’s some more information in a less exciting but still pretty interesting follow-up video, which is below.
Rival tribes, weapon crafting (Waiter, there’s Monster Hunter in my Far Cry) and historical flexibility? Gosh, sign me up. I just hope animal taming is in there--riding a saber tooth tiger into the camp of my enemies would be just about the best thing I can imagine a video game doing for me..
...well, second best, but this is a family website.
