Today, speaking with Gamespot, Far Cry 5’s executive producer Dan Hey spoke a bit about the amount of time you could expect to invest in the game once it finally comes out.
"I would say that a good player will go through it in 25 hours, but what we're seeing is people going into the world and just spending four or five hours fishing or hunting, or just doing stuff that we hadn't really prepared for. So it really depends on how you play."
An unsurprising answer, considering it’s one of Ubisoft’s famous sandboxes. If any of the many, many side-quests are actually fun to play will be another matter entirely, but the addition of the Map-Editor, Dan Hey is confident that there’ll be something for every time of gamer, although he wouldn’t specifically say if it would allow someone to make a sort of PUBG or Fortnite clone. Which is probably because, Ubisoft being Ubisoft, they’re already trying to work on one of their own.
Still, if nothing else, it provides a lot of playtime for a genre that’s typically defined by shorter campaigns and more robust multiplayer modes. So while I can’t say I’ll pick up the game myself (Far Cry 4 got underwhelming in a hurry) I can say I’m excited to see how it’s received.
It’ll launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 27.
