Normally, this would be the kind of thing that wouldn’t even land on my radar.  But... circumstances being as they are...

So, Nintendo and Game Freak are teaming up to make a--and this is serious--detective game starring a talking, deep-voiced Pikachu. Called Great Detective Pikachu, the game was announced earlier this week for the 3DS, as, currently, a Japanese exclusive. You can check out the trailer below, if you enjoy the occasional dip into the uncanny valley.

Looks kind of stupid. At least, in my humble opinion. Regardless, it’s created a bit of buzz, and as it turns out, there are plenty of American fans who’d like to see it come stateside. While I wouldn’t call myself a member of their ranks, there is one subset of fans who I can get behind 100%. A group who have taken to Change.org to petition Nintendo for what may bethe most important issue of our time.

The suggestion--no, rather, the OPPORTUNITY--to employ Danny DeVito as the voice of Pikachu in the event of a western release. For obvious reasons, I signed this petition, and I hope you do as well: after all, nothing would make this game worth buying more than his lovely, angel-kissed voice squawking behind Pikachu’s disturbingly large mouth. From where I’m sitting, that might be the only thing that’d make it worth buying.

That said, this does seem like the kind of thing Japan would keep to itself, so, don’t hold your breath on anything coming from this. Still, it’s all in good fun.
