There are few things more soothing than a nice serving of your favorite comfort food. That goes double for when the food is based on your favorite comfort game. That was the inspiration behind one Harvest Moon fans blog and summer project.
Online user Powerberry recently finished cooking and blogging about every recipe there is in Harvest Moon 64. The idea began as a 2020 Summer project, which stretched into the new year. One by one, they recreated each recipe present in the classic farming game as a real world dish. Each recipe was shared on their blog, sharing their personal thoughts along with the real-world recipe they wrote/modified for the dish. It even comes with a lovely picture of the dish sitting by the window next to a spotted pig.
They didn't do it all by themselves, however. They cite two other blogs as a major source of information when coming up with the recipes.
The first was the Just One Cookbook, by Namiko Hirasawa Chen. This is a blog that shares recipes for a large collection of Japanese dishes. Since many of Harvest Moons recipes were Japanese in origin (it's a Japanese game, after all), a handful of similar recipes could be found there.
The other is the Harvest Moon 2 Recipe Master, a Japanese blog by a domestic spouse that had a similar idea as Powerberry. They provided insight and ideas that one wouldn't have been able to find through just the English localization of the game.
Video game cooking has become an increasingly popular concept over the last few years. It allows home-chefs to discover new dishes outside of their usual culture in a fun and familiar way. As a long-time Harvest Moon fan, our hats are off to Powerberry. They've put in a lot of work putting all of this together and we cant wait to try some of the recipes they've shared. If you want to try them for yourself, check out their blog!
