We recently reported that the upcoming online RPG Fallout 76 would be a Bethesda.net exclusive for PC, instead of being available on Steam. But according to a new listing on the Microsoft Store, this may not truly be the case.
Fallout 76, as well as the Tricentennial edition of the game, have appeared on the Microsoft Store page as an available pre-order. First discovered by SegmentNext, this conflicts with Bethesda's earlier claim that the game will only be available through Bethesda.net, the company's own game launcher. The online listing is NOT for the Xbox One version of the game, confirmed by the clear label for PC.
Interestingly, the game listing is not the easiest to find. The listing cannot be found by searching through the Microsoft Store Windows 10 app, only through the website. It's also listed as a "device," while the Xbox game is listed as a "game."
It is possible that this is simply another outlet for users to preorder a Bethesda.net code, much like what GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon offer. But with no word by Bethesda or Microsoft, we can only speculate.
Fallout 76 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for $59.99, with a special Tricentennial edition available for $79.99.
We have reached out to both companies for comment.
