The apocalypse is back! Today, Bethesda revealed the official trailer for Fallout 4, and boy, does it impress. On an additional note, Fallout 4 will be arriving on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and the setting?
Boston.
Complete with the depressing quote, "War. War never changes." It never does.
Massachusetts, or The Commonwealth, has actually been referenced in the previous Fallout Games, but this is the first time the setting will make its full debut.
The trailer itself portrays the deep sadness we've grown accustomed to throughout the series, flickering between pre-and-post-apocalypse. For the introduction, a home shifts between heartfelt and decrepit. What used to be the home of a small, loving family is invaded by a German Shepherd, sniffing amongst rubble and exploring the gray atmosphere. Again, the past shifts to portray a hovering robot holding a box. Radio messages permeate the air, all of which seem to be set in the past. After the dog inspects a crib, he bolts from the house and heads across a bridge. The past flashes once more, revealing a fall setting, where people are running past the bridge. In the present, a montage of monsters, landscapes, and enemies, perhaps mutants or zombies, shimmers before our eyes. Finally we see the young family, alongside other residents, facing the nuclear detonation mentioned on the radio. The dog discovers a lovely set of armor before scampering off to meet his master, the protagonist of the Fallout 4.
All in all, hype-worthy, depressing, but the trailer definitely leads to many questions, all of which are likely explored within the upcoming title.
"How did the detonation exactly affect The Commonwealth?"
"Where are we headed?"
"Who's the dog!?"
Either way, Bethesda has confirmed that we will be seeing some juicy Fallout 4 gameplay at E3 2015 on June 14. Right now, it is available on Amazon for pre-order. I hope a German Shepherd figurine comes with any Collector's Edition!
