... It really was free. Fallout 4, the season pass, and all the DLC (except Far Harbor, which was included in the season pass anyway) was free on the Xbox One store for a few beautiful hours. Speculation was abound as to the cause, with most people guessing that it was some publicity stunt in time for E3, but, either way, plenty of people took advantage of it while it was free.
Of course, nothing good lasted, and this surprise 100 percent-off sale has since been fixed, and everything costs what it's supposed too.
Following up on this remedy, Bethesda had this to say:
“An unintended discount caused some excitement today. While we loved the enthusiasm it generated, prices for Fallout 4 games have been restored.”
Ah well. If you're one of the lucky folks who got their hands on a free copy of Fallout 4, congratulations... assuming Bethesda lets you keep the free copy, which they may not. Otherwise... better cross your fingers for another 'unintended discount'.
