Fallout 4 Going to Vive, Skyrim Getting Remastered

One final bit of Bethesda news

Bethesda had a hell of a press conference yesterday, I think we can all agree, and there's a healthy amount of excitement for more Doom DLC (too bad it has to be multiplayer focused--that's not really why people got into Doom, ID software, you know that right?) Quake Champions, and of course, Dishonored 2. But, that's far from all they had on offer. They also spent a good chunk of their time looking back, both at Fallout 4 and at that old classic, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

While we're still not going to see a remake of Morrowind anytime soon, as it turns out, the speculation that we'd be seeing an HD remake of Skyrim has been confirmed, a remastery that's being called the "Special Edition", with better graphics and all the DLC, coming out for Xbox One, PS4, and the PC this October 28th.

So yeah, that's not really 'news', but it does come with a tasty caveat: if you own Skyrim and all the DLC, or the Legendary edition over Steam, then you'll get upgraded to the Skyrim Special Edition for free. So you don't have to worry about losing out on that sweet HD graphics, PC players--you can get the boosted version without paying an extra cent... unless you don't have the DLC, I guess.

Anyway. Fallout 4 also got some special attention, as Bethesda used the stage to talk about the next batch of DLC we'd see for the game. Ever since the game's first launch, the folks over at Bethesda have been releasing DLC that have let you make your own robotic fighting companion and improve your settlements with arenas, but now they're taking things to the next logical step by adding three extra DLC packs to the game, each one focused on construction, customization, and all-around screwing with other residents of the wasteland.

The "Contraptions" DLC lets you build all kinds of mechanical wonders and do-dads to your settlements, the "Nuka Cola" DLC lets you design and manage your own soda-themed amusement park, and the "Vault-Tec" DLC lets you manage, run, and of course, torture people in your very own Vault.

Are we certain at this point this isn't just Bethesda's extremely roundabout way of apologizing for Hearthfire?

But there was one last announcement to come from Bethesda regarding Fallout 4: namely, that next year, the entire game, top to bottom, will be ported over to the HTC Vive. That means a true-to-form VR experience for the latest, arguably greatest Fallout game... that's a heck of an experience right there. While people at E3 were able to try it out themselves, for us stuck at home, well, we'll have to wait until later to see how that'd run.

Still, exciting news all-around! And E3 is just starting!

I can't wait to see what happens today!
