Either way, according to game director Todd Howard with Game Informer, the game's day one sales surpassed the digital sales, and within three days Fallout 4 scored a revenue of over $100 million. For the month of November, it earned $750 million, which is a lot, but the game probably earned Bethesda far more since.
"One of the things that is amazing: Fallout 4 sold more day one digitally than at retail. That's a big change."
However, it's important to keep in mind that physical sales aren't dying, and they probably won't be any time soon. There are good reasons for this: DRM issues and physical collection purposes, for example. Besides, people probably didn't want to pick up their physical copies at midnight, of all times. It's much easier just to download it on release.
