So if you weren’t already aware, Bethesda decided that the one thing that Fallout 76 really needed, the one thing fans were begging for, was a new way to spend money on it. Which is presumably why they recently introduced Fallout 76’s new paid subscription, called Fallout 1st, which will cost you about a hundred bucks a year.
The subscription comes with a handful of things, including private servers, a tent, in-game currency, and other things. I’d call them “goodies”, because according to player reports, more often than not these rewards are busted to the point of being either useless or downright harmful.
There are two specific cases of this so far: the first regards the private servers. For a long time now, players have wanted to have a instance of the game running just for them and their closest mates, which has been delivered… kind of. You see, these private servers aren’t actually all that private, since apparently anyone on your friends list can hop into your server, regardless if you want them around or not. Since you need to be friends with someone to trade gear… it means most people have a lot of people they don’t actually care for on their friends list.
But that’s absolutely minor compared to the issue with the Scrap Box. The Scrap Box was supposed to give Fallout 1st players a place to store an infinite amount of loot. A great little perk, were it not for the tiny issue where players are finding their scrap boxes completely emptied due to some bug, which meant they lost everything they put in there.
Bethesda has promised new options for the former issue, and a fix for the latter, but one thing can’t be argued: a screwed-up launch is nothing short of on-brand for Fallout 76.
Good times.
