Which is why, to keep this fifteen-year-old game from getting too stale, there’s a team of fan-modders who are working hard to add new content to the game so players can explore all of Morrowind’s mainland, not just the small island of Vvardenfell where the vanilla game takes place. It’s big, it’s volunteer-based, and no one working on it is doing so in the hopes of earning a dime (or finishing it) which was why it was suspicious when some eagle-eyed fans noticed a Patreon page open in the name of the creators, asking for donations in order to keep the mod alive.
People asked the modders about the page, and it was quickly revealed that it was a fake that was merely impersonating the modders in order to steal people’s money.
Needless to say, the creators did not abide this:
Good news! Tamriel Rebuilt has become popular enough again that people try to run scam and fraud operations in our name.
Bad news! People are running scam and fraud operations in our name.
There is currently a link going around to a Patreon page masquerading as our official account, asking for donations to keep Tamriel Rebuilt running. This account is not affiliated with us in any way, shape or form. We do not have, nor do we plan to have, a Patreon account at all.
We have alerted Patreon to the situation. In the meantime, keep calm and do not spend money blindly!
Fortunately, Patreon acted quickly, and the page has been shut down. Before being struck down, no one had even given money to it, so either the crooks did a bad job or no one would have been willing to pay anyway. Either way, it’s a happy ending for all parties involved.
You can check out the mod yourself right here, actually. It’s 100 percent free, as long as you have the base game and both expansions.
