Were still a long, long way away from Microsofts next Fable game. But were still seeing trickles of information of it come through. This time, its that the upcoming Fable game will use the Forza game engine.

The information came way of a job listing on the Microsoft website (found by IGN). The listing is for a Software Engineer for Turn10 Studios, the folks behind Forza. Further in, it explains that the studio is working with the ForzaTech engine to support open world RPG mechanics, mentioning Fable by name.

This is now the most substantial bit of information we have about the game. Revealed during E3 2020, All we saw was a pre-rendered teaser trailer showing a frog eating a fairy. Any discussion about it up to this point has boiled down to its still a long time away. At least now we know what kind of graphical expectations to set.

And boy howdy, does it set some expectations. The ForzaTech engine is a beautiful one. And with the Horizon series, we know that it can handle the open world aspect of Fable. Our only concern on the technical side is actor limit. How many creatures can the ForzaTech engine handle at one time? While theres not very many in a racing game, RPGs often include swarms of enemies and characters. Though we trust that the folks at Turn10 know what theyre doing.

Its not terribly common to share engines nowadays, either. Especially since Fable and Forza both fall under the Microsoft umbrella. Had Kojima Productions not been granted usage of the Decima Engine (Horizon Zero Dawn), Death Stranding may not have looked nearly as impressive as it does. Sharing helps everyone.
