Fable Returns with Fable Fortune

Fable Returns with Fable Fortune

Not exactly a grand return, but... it's still a return.

With the death of LionHead studios and the swallowing of their former employees, it seemed like, for a while there, we'd never see their now trademark IP, Fable, ever again. Some would say that's good, others would disagree, but I think we could all say that if Fable did need to end, it could have at least ended in a better way.

Well. Good news: notice the past tense with the word "seem"? That's because Fable's not dead: it has a chance to be resurrected, but only with your help.

Y'see, a few former LionHead developers have recently started up a Kickstarter to try to fund - and finish - a prototype Fable-themed digital card game LionHead had been working on in secret before they were shut down, called Fable Fortune. The game has Microsoft's permission to exist, but they're not offering much in the way of money, so if Fable fans can raise a not-insignificant sum of 250,000 euros, which is about 279,000 USD, then Fable will live on.

You can check it out here.

The game looks like Hearthstone, but instead of being purely focused on PvP, you have to select and undergo certain missions throughout a match, which will "unlock your hero's potential." It will also include the famous morality system, so you'll be able to align yourself to good or evil depending how you play. Oh, and there's a co-op mode, which is neat.

It looks extremely polished, very unique, and comes from a team of seasoned veterans working from a recognized and beloved IP... but still, $280,000 is a lot to ask for. Right now, they've raised about $25,000, so they've got a ways to go, but my hopes are still high for them: best of luck!

... Not like I plan on donating or anything.
