Not unprofessional in the rude sense, but in a licensing sense. At the end of the Tekken 7 Grand Finals last weekend, a video clip of the audio codec from Metal Gear Solid showed Snake himself saying "That's some good ass Tekken." This made the audience believe that They had teased the inclusion of Snake in the game.
Later, the official EVO twitter explained that this wasn't a tease of any sort, but a joke by the event organizers.
"Just to clear things up, the Snake cameo video that we showed during Tekken finals was our idea of a little joke. It was not intended to imply a character reveal, and was done on our own, without consulting Bandai Namco. Sorry for any confusion!"
Of course, the community response was a heated one. Many fans were upset by the misdirection, intentional or not. It even prompted a response by David Hayter, the voice of the character.
"You also failed to consult me, or Konami. Please do not use my voice to promote other games. Ever. "
It's not clear where that sits legally. We assume that they did not actually use Hayter's voice lines, but just an impersonation. We don't expect any legal action to occur, but it's still more bad blood.
While no harm came from the event, it's soiled this year's event as the EVO where they teased Snake and upset everyone. This might lead to a change in organizational leadership, we will see.
