Next Saturday, the Clippers will be hosting the Sacramento Kings, where fans can receive NBA Jam shirts with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. One lucky baller will also leave with an original four-player arcade machine of NBA Jam. If that doesn't seem cool enough, the event will even have the original game voice actor, Tim Kitzrow, heard throughout the Kings-Clippers contest, during pregame introductions and timeouts.
There have been talks with EA, the game's current rights owner, about rebooting the game for the 25th anniversary. Kitzrow is working with Microsoft right now on the idea.
"I can't speak anything to the specifics, but I can tell you there is movement in the works to get it done for the 25th year. So I'm hoping that we get a remake that does justice to the original."
NBA Jam creator Mark Turmell has also expressed his approval of his idea, though he isn't a part of any plans. Possibly because Turmell left EA back in 2011.
"I helped on the reboot of the franchise (back in 2010). They did a pretty good job. But there's so much more that can be done. It's really sort of an untapped category, to have that over-the-top NBA action with the official license. It's a great brand."
NBA Jam Day is a fantastic way for both the pros and the players to get together to celebrate such an iconic game.
