EVE Online is Being Developed as TV Series

On the same level as Game of Thrones, too!

EVE Online has been going for some time now, releasing almost 13 years ago. Lately it feels as if it has been garnering far more attention, however, as it is now just leaping onto television. CEO of CCP Games Hilmar Veigar Petursson, told Wired that the company was actively working on a TV adaptation.

The MMORPG itself is set 1000 years into the future, where humans are colonizing other planets. However, humans come across a new galaxy called "New Eden" thanks to a stargate. I could definitely see the premise being used for TV purposes.

According to Petursson:

"We're actually exploring that with Ridley Scott's production company and Baltasar Kormakur, an Icelandic director. We're actively working on that. I think we have some traction on it. It's a very big idea obviously - doing a television series is something that takes years to get going. I think House of Cards took around seven years to get going...

I think there's a huge opportunity to bring EVE Online's stories that have already happened into something like a television series. [Not] a movie - EVE is the size of Game of Thrones, and you couldn't make a movie about Game of THrones, it's just way too big. EVE Online is at that scale, so I think a TV series is something that makes sense."

To compare EVE Online to Game of Thrones seems pretty epic, and EVE does have great potential. Let's see where it heads, shall we? Because I would love some Game of Throne's-esque plots in there.
