Breaking into any industry isn't easy, eSports is no different. What folks will do to get a high-profile team to notice them are... bizarre. Particularly the story about Ji "Aaron" Xing, raises a few eyebrows and leaves me baffled.

For the uninitiated, eSports is competitive gaming at a professional level. These prizes and pots reach well into the millions for some events. It's no wonder why so many people are clamoring to catch the attention of elite, professional teams. Ji "Aaron" Xing is no different in his desire to be on one of those teams - his actions, however are unique and apparently effective.

According to Extra Mustard, Ji "Aaron" Xing applied for Team World Elite. When doing so he contacted established member Cui "If" Yi, and told him his little sister had a crush on him. (Yup, already a little odd.) What transpires next blows my mind:

Per the Daily Dot:

"The next thing Cui knew, the girl had supposedly committed suicide. With a feeling of guilt looming over the team, Ji was given a position as an analyst. The story was apparently corroborated by posts on Chinese social network Sina Weibo that Ji had made about his sister.
But then, some research pulled up an astonishing fact about this sister. Someone had logged into her account after May 2012, when she supposedly committed suicide. Cui also said that around this time he received a text from the supposedly dead girl, admonishing him for not giving more support to Ji when he left the team."

As it turns out, the sister was completely fictitious. Ji made it all up. He has now left Team World Elite and created his own eSports team. He has single handedly picked some of the leagues best players to join him.

What are your thoughts, would you join his team with this knowledge? Does it even matter? With eSports growing in mass appeal, I'll bet we're going to see more "odd" stories like this as people aspire to become a professional gamer.
