Epic Devs Are Contemplating a Respawn System for Fortnite

In Fortnite, death meant immediate failure. But according to one of the developers, this may change. Epic Games has been contemplating the idea of mid-match respawning.

The information comes from Reddit, where the developers hosted an AMA (Ask Me Anything, a form of informal interview with the community). In it, three developers responded to various questions posted in the comment section. One question, by user C4falcons, asked them about the idea of a respawn system.

Weve been considering this mechanic for a while and have been exploring it. Want to make sure we give it the time it needs and fully understand its impact on the game as a whole. Look for further updates during Season 8.

Currently, the game is in Season 7, which began last December. The only information about the following season was in the form of a teaser image, which shows a silhouette of a hook.

Normally, a game being about the last man standing would seem adverse to have a respawn system. But with the recently released Apex Legends having its own methods for resurrecting teammates, the idea has resurfaced as something more plausible.

The AMA went on to discuss other ideas, such as single-person vehicles, ranked modes, and the ominous hint toward season 8 in one word: Bananas. No, we don't know what it means, either.
