For those who missed it, Emily Is Away was an indie game based on the old AOL Instant Messenger system, AIM. The entire game was set in a single chat window between the player and a girl named Emily. More than anything else, the game fully captured the angst of high school and college life. Players who were teenagers during the AIM craze found plenty of nostalgic reasons to play, remember, and cry with Emily Is Away. If you didn't get enough the first time around, don't worry, there's a sequel coming.
The game calls itself a spiritual successor, but I'm not sure how that works. It's titled like a fully direct sequel. The teaser doesn't really shed much light on the upcoming title, but it does give us a taste. There seems to be more customizing with the player's profile. Before, all we could change was our screen name and avatar. This time, there appears to be more options for the avatar as well as a way to partially customize our profiles.
As a guy who was in high school during AIM's rise, I took to Emily Is Away. It was a huge nostalgia rush into how angsty and awkward those years were. So I'm pretty excited to see what's to come with Emily Is Away Too. Specifically, I'm excited to see the familiar orange text and black background from my old AIM profile.
