The Elder Scrolls Online is a thing. Not a very popular thing, not when compared to other monoliths of the MMO world, but it’s in that comfortable sweet spot where it’s not popular enough to typically make headlines, but not doing badly enough to make headlines either... mostly. It’s still chugging along quite comfortably in its own little corner of the net, and recently, they announced a brand new expansion that’s just exciting enough to warrant an article in its honor.

Namely, Homesteads. And it does exactly what you think it does.

There’s no place like home after a long day of adventuring. Homestead, The Elder Scrolls Online’s player housing system, is coming in February 2017. Watch our Homestead first look trailer for a glimpse at some of the homes you’ll be able to own, and what you can do with them. (All the homes in this video were decorated entirely using the in-game player Housing Editor tools.)

When Homesteads launches in February of next year, players will finally be able to buy a chunk of Tamriel for themselves. When it launches, there will be nearly 40 unique homes (so like 38 or 39) that can be decorated with over 2,000 individual pieces of furniture and garnishes. Each of the game’s 10 races will have homes based on their unique style, but you’re not stuck with any particular style… except the Imperial home, which requires owning the Digital Imperial Edition Upgrade. On the bright side, you won’t need the DLC to get a home, because they’re all located in the base zones. So there's a lot to like about this.

And if you feel like being a housing Mongol, good news: you can own multiple houses, craft your own furniture, hire assistants and buy pets to keep your homes cozy. So, if you’ve always wanted to role-play a high fantasy version of Donald Trump, then 1) You’re a freaking genius, and 2) you finally have a canvas for your brilliance.
